The Carnival of Cento (a little town at 30 km from Bologna) is known since 1600 thanks to some frescoes of the famous painter from Cento Gian Francesco Barbieri, known as “Guercino.” In 1615 Guercino depicted festivals and events in his frescoes. In the early 1900s the local people thought to create its own king Tasi as a symbol of the Cento Carnival. Since 1990 this event has achieved international summits thanks to the twinning with the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro, the most famous in the world.
